After years of abuse, the two piece steel drive shaft has lived its life. The U joints were beginning to loosen up, and make noise, and the carrier bearing was on its way out.
Instead of trying to rebuild the weak factory unit, I opted to replace the entire driveshaft with a single piece aluminum shaft from ShaftMasters.
It weighs in at 11 lbs (7 lbs less than stock), and has greaseable, replaceable U joints.
The new shaft allows far greater throttle response, and increase acceleration slightly. It will also take my abuse far better than that stock shaft.
